At-Large Director, Region II (Canada) (Term: 2025-2027)
Dominique Griffon is the Dean of the Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island (Canada). Her leadership has resulted in a new interprovincial funding agreement for the College, preparation of its accreditation visit, initiation of a new strategic plan, inaugural Indigenous youth summer program, and a collective agreement on the workload, promotion, and tenure of clinical faculty. In her prior role as Associate Dean for Research at the Western University of Health Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine (California), she focused on expanding the research infrastructure of the College, faculty support, regional partnerships, and student engagement opportunities, culminating in a T35 training grant from NIH. Her administrative career started in her prior appointment at the University of Illinois, where she managed the Laboratory for Orthopedic Research on Biomaterials and served as Section and Service Head of small animal surgery. Before becoming a tenured faculty at the University of Illinois (USA), she taught small animal surgery at Kansas State University (USA), and the Veterinary School of Edinburgh (UK). As a clinician scientist, Dr Griffon maintained a track record of funded experimental and clinical research. Her clinical research interest led to her recognition as ACVS founding fellow in minimally invasive surgery (small animal orthopedics). She has published over 100 publications and given over 400 national and international presentations. She is co-editor of the “Textbook on Complications in Small Animal Surgery” and Editor-in-Chief of “Veterinary Surgery”.
Dr Griffon has consistently served the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) since she became an administrator:
- AAVMC representative on the American Veterinary Medical Association Legislative Committee: 2019-2022, term renewed 2022-2025
- AAVMC research committee: 2011-2024, chair 2011-2013
- AAVMC Annual Conference Planning Committee: 2021-2024
- Veterinary Scholars Symposium (VSS) site selection committee: 2020-2024
- VSS Programming Subcommittee (2023)
