Veterinary Related Experience Many veterinary colleges require veterinary-related work experience. During your period of preprofessional work, either during the regular semester or the summer months, seek veterinary-related experience. Work or volunteer in places such as a veterinary clinic, research laboratory, farm, zoo, wildlife park, or ranch. Having broad-based experiences, especially with research and large animals, is beneficial. Keep a record of the time you spend in each veterinary-related experience and the type of knowledge you gained from it. Some schools require that you work directly alongside veterinarians in clinical practice. Working with a veterinarian will also help you decide if veterinary medicine is the career for you. |
