Pakistan's UVAS, United Arab Emirates University Join AAVMC as Affiliates

Washington, D.C., August 14, 2017 – The AAVMC has welcomed two new affiliate members: Pakistan’s University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS), and United Arab Emirates University (EAUE) in Al Ain.

UVAS is located in Lahore, Pakistan’s second largest city and capital of the northeastern Punjab province. The origins of the institution date back to 1882, and it was upgraded to university status in 2002.

UVAS includes over 300 faculty members working on five campuses. More than 5,000 students are presently studying in fields such as veterinary and animal sciences, animal production & technology, biotechnology, microbiology, pharmaceutical sciences, food sciences, environmental sciences, zoological sciences, and other disciplines.

Founded in 1976 by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, UAEU is a comprehensive, research-intensive university that currently enrolls about 14,000 Emirati and international students. UAEU offers graduate and undergraduate programs through nine Colleges: Business and Economics, Education, Engineering, Food and Agriculture Humanities and Social Sciences, IT Law, Medicine and Health Sciences, and Science.

EAUE’s Veterinary Medicine Department is located within the college of Food and Agriculture on the Al Ain campus. The training program, which leads to a degree in veterinary medicine, was established in 2013.

Affiliate status is available to colleges and schools of veterinary medicine that are planning to seek Council on Education accreditation, or to departments of veterinary science and comparative medicine.

Affiliate membership in the AAVMC provides institutions with a variety of benefits, including access to important data and analytics, meetings and events, advocacy and international engagement programs.

The Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) is a nonprofit membership organization working to protect and improve the health and welfare of animals, people and the environment around the world by advancing academic veterinary medicine. Members include 49 accredited veterinary medical colleges in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
