NAVMEC Baseline Survey
On July 17, 2011, the AAVMC Board of Directors approved the North American Veterinary Medical Education Consortium (NAVMEC) report and recommendations (available here)
and authorized its widespread distribution to the academic veterinary medicine community and its stakeholders. Many of the recommendations in the report are already under way or being developed by schools and colleges of veterinary medicine (CVM), the AAVMC, testing and licensing entities, and accreditation agents.
Included in this process is a survey of veterinary medical students across North America on their veterinary medical education as it relates to the NAVMEC report and its recommendations. In student surveys, respondents were asked to identify their CVM as well as their year of study. The breakdown of student respondents by school is detailed in the chart below.
The findings of this and other NAVMEC baseline surveys will inform efforts to further enhance CVM education, finance, and administration, as well as to develop initiatives and future activities of NAVMEC. A preliminary findings report will be given at the AAVMC Annual Conference in March 2012 (conference information and registration available here).
