Dr. Ewan Cameron

At-Large Director, Region IV (Europe, Mexico, Caribbean)




Dr. Ewan Cameron is the head of the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Glasgow. From 2004 to 2010 he served as deputy dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and he was appointed head of the school in 2011.

He graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Glasgow in 1984. Following two years in veterinary practice, he returned to the University of Glasgow to undertake postgraduate studies in the then relatively new field of transgenic biology. In 1991, he was appointed to a lectureship at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine teaching in animal health and production. With funding from the Leukaemia Research Fund, he established a research group focussed on modeling multiple events in leukaemia/lymphoma development. He became a senior lecturer in 1996, then reader and head of the Faculty Graduate School in 2000.

In 2004, he was appointed to a professorship in molecular and cellular oncology. He has held program grant funding from Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research since 1996 and is co-director and principal investigator of the University of Glasgow’s Molecular Oncology Laboratory. His research interests center on the Runx genes and their role in leukaemia and breast cancer.

Dr. Cameron has strong interests in cancer biology, animal health, veterinary education and professional training. He is a member of the Council of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and a member of the Education Committee of the RCVS. He is chair of the Veterinary Schools Council (UK) and Region 1 representative for the executive committee of the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE).  In July 2017, he was appointed to the AAVMC Board of Directors as At-Large Director, Region IV (Europe, Mexico, Caribbean).
